Vezina Trophy Finalists Announced

Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller joined Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils and Ilya Bryzgalov of the Phoenix Coyotes as finalists for the 2009-10 Vezina Trophy.

The finalists for the award given to the NHL’s top goaltender were announced yesterday. The winner will be unveiled during the NHL Awards on June 23 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Miller was the MVP of the Vancouver Olympics, helping Team USA win a silver medal. He was second in the league with a 2.22 goals-against average and .929 save percentage this season, winning 41 games for Buffalo.

Brodeur is a four-time Vezina winner and led all goaltenders in games (77), victories (45) and shutouts (nine) this season. However, a typical Brodeur season behind his typical new Jersey defensive system might not be enough to excite the voters.

Bryzgalov helped the  beleaguered Coyotes set franchise records for wins and points in a season. Not only that, Bryzgalov shocked the hockey world by taking the Coyotes to the playoffs and they’re currently giving the Red Wings a run for their money.

Prediction – Canada Card World is betting on Ryan Miller to take home the Vezina Trophy this season. Widely considered to be the best goaltender in the NHL this season, it only makes sense for Miller to capture the trophy. Oddly enough, Canada Card World would promote Bryzgalov for the Hart Trophy as MVP of the NHL moreso than as a Vezina Trophy finalist.

In terms of card values, this can only help Miller and especially Bryzgalov gain more notoriety. For Brodeur, already considered one of the best ever, there isn’t much he can do to gain more hobby love.
